CS1 error on Popular Monster[edit]

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Popular Monster, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A "bare URL and missing title" error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can (bot)&section=new report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 13:39, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BabyTree69. As you'll see, I have now formally begun the merger proposal after your suggestion at the Teahouse. Any discussion will take place at the Talk page of the destination article. I don't expect anyone to object but it is usual to allow about a week for any comments before going ahead. Meanwhile, if you want to add new material, for example based on the searches we mentioned at the Teahouse, it is fine to start adding them to AOP. Just be careful that if you use any wording currently in OHP you mention in the edit summary that you have copied from that article. Thanks. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:58, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for proposing the merge and mentioning me in your proposal. I think I am going to search for references and possibly new information to add to the page, which isn't yet in either of the two pages. I'll keep a list of those reference and information in a seperate Word document on my computer for now and then I'll add it when the merging is complete. I think that's better, for now, than having two pages with information about the subject. BabyTree69 (talk) 13:41, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine. Alternatively, you could place the new information and sources on the AOP Talk Page as a temporary measure, which would have the advantage that anyone else interested could see them. If you have not already done so, consider installing the WP:Citation expander on your account. It is great at taking academic journal references which have a digital object identifier and converting them into full {{cite journal}} references. Incidentally, if you do want to work offline, I'd recommend software like Wordpad. The problem with Word is that it tends to be too "clever", for example by converting '' (two individual single quotes) into ". Wikipedia uses the former to indicate italics and it can be very annoying when such changes get made. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:02, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's a great idea. I completely forgot about the talk page. That way others can add their information and references as well, if they have any. About the Wikipedia:Citation expander, do I understand it correctly that the tool automaticaly turns a URL in a reference with date of publishing and authors?
Thanks for the recommendation of Wordpad, I didn't know Word does that. Word is my go-to app for writing, I never use any other app, so I don't know what the negative sides of the app is comparing to other writing programmes. BabyTree69 (talk) 15:25, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
With the citation expander you can type a partial citation into your sandbox page such as
  • {{cite journal |doi=10.1000/ABC123}}
  • {{cite book |isbn=978-1-23-456789-0}}
  • {{cite web |url=https://example.com}}
then have the bot expand these to complete citations (sometimes only partially complete, especially for websites) before you save the page or preview it without saving (to check it looks correct) and copy/pasting it out into your local app to be saved as wikicode for later use.

I've completed the merger formalities and added the sentence you thought was worth keeping into the target article. Go ahead and add anything else you think should be there, including new sources. I'll take another look in a few days. Thanks for proposing this merger. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:23, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
