Stephen R. Donaldson article

Hello. Just a note that I changed your edit on the Stephen R. Donaldson page: from Columbia University to the College of Wooster.J.R. Hercules 00:03, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Harvard

[edit]

Nice picture you added to Harvard Museum of Natural History. I see you are doing some work in Harvard-related institutions as am I. My opinion is that they are at least as encyclopedia-worthy as a reality show contestant or the episode of some animated series, and I am guessing you agree. I made a few links in the Glass Flowers article and will be doing some more work to make sure everything notable among Harvard museums is covered. It's nice working with you; best wishes. HouseOfScandal 23:48, 10 December 2006

Yeah, I was reading something you'd done over on the CC page, and knew it was you the second I saw the initials.

Biography Pages

[edit]

When putting up a page on a person, is it best practice to use social names such as Mr. or Ms. in the name of the article, or only the name? WilsonjrWikipedia 22:54, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living persons, as you did to Viola Canales. Thank you. --Danorton 20:33, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for starting the article on this museum; I'm actually kind of surprised that there wasn't one before. As a former MFA intern who just might maybe (fingers crossed) be moving to Nagoya soon, I'm quite interested in stories and histories surrounding both museums. I am especially interested in your comment that there is some sort of conflict between the Nagoya curators and Boston administrators over what they will show. What's your source on this? I ask not because I'm challenging the statement, but because I'm quite curious to read more about it. Thanks. LordAmeth 22:45, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year Cjs2111...I don't want to keep reverting your Category:National Geographic Society but I am not sure what you mean by the word Organ. Should it be Origins. Thanks in advance for your help. Shoessss 16:27, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seperated at birth?

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that we had similar user names, so I checked out your profile and noticed that the similarities did not end there. We are both from the Buffalo suburbs, both went to Ivy League Universities, both are of Polish ancestory, and both edit wikipedia. I believe that the only logical conclusion is that we are twins seperated at birth. Good luck on the law school apps... --Cjs56 14:28, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

June 2007

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. An article you recently created, Volker Berghahn, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new articles, so it will shortly be removed (if it hasn't been already). Please use the sandbox for any tests you may want to do and please read our introduction page to learn more about contributing. Thank you. A tag has been placed on Volker Berghahn, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

You might particularly want to read up on academic notability guidelines in this case. Coren 01:19, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. You did a good job establishing the notability of Volker Berghahn, but be aware that you should never remove a {{speedy}} tag from an article you wrote yourself. A passing admin will look at the article, see that notability has been established, and remove the tag him or herself. Coren 01:31, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rename of Casey Blake (the baseball player) article

[edit]

Hi CJ ... would you have any objection to renaming the article for the baseball player, Casey Blake, as Casey Blake (baseball) instead of using his full name. I doubt that anyone interested in finding his article is going to know to search for him as William Casey Blake. My suggested name is consistent with new naming guidelines for baseball player articles that I think will be finalized any day now (if you're not aware of this effort, you can find the latest draft here. --Sanfranman59 03:26, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the quick response. I'm relatively new to all of this and don't know how to rename an article. What's the process? --Sanfranman59 03:38, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Stsebs.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Stsebs.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:11, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He seems more notable now that you added the links. However, I would still ask you to consider: is he that notable? How far is his coverage as a historian at Cambridge University? Has he had "significant" coverage of all his work from independent sources? I leave you to ponder, then if you're happy you may safely remove the notability tag. Richtersveld World Heritage

[edit]

Please note that specifically area of the Richtersveld Community Conservancy [1] was declared a World Heritage Site. The National Park is not even in the WHS - specifically because of mining activities within the boundaries of the park. The article at present gives the impression that the RNP = the Richtersveld WHS. The conservancy is similar in area to the RNP, but just to the south - see map at [2].

Post-modern truthsquad

[edit]

q. Is there such a thing as post-modern truth?

a. sigh. I think the original insight of postmodernists, that absolute objectivity is impossible, that none of is free of the truth that what we see always depends on where we stand was imporatnt and useful, albeit hardly original.

The problem is that most-modernism has become, to a large extent, merely a convenient cover for the politicization of scholarship.

So, while there is no post-modern truth, there is a need to tell the truth about post-modernists. Post-modern truthsquad (talk) 15:24, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Post-modern truthsquad[reply]

could you please do me a favor?

[edit]

Hello,

I am a master student at the Institute of Technology Management, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. Currently I am wrapping up my master thesis titled “Can Wikipedia be used for knowledge service?” In order to validate the knowledge evolution maps of identified users in Wikipedia, I need your help. I have generated a knowledge evolution map to denote your knowledge activities in Wikipedia according to your inputs including the creation and modification of contents in Wikipedia, and I need you to validate whether the generated knowledge evolution map matches the knowledge that you perceive you own it. Could you please do me a favor?

  1. I will send you a URL link to a webpage on which your knowledge evolution map displays. Please assign the topic (concept) in the map to a certain cluster on the map according to the relationship between the topic and clusters in your cognition, or you can assign it to ‘none of above’ if there is no suitable cluster.
  2. I will also send a questionnaire to you. The questions are related to my research topic, and I need your viewpoints about these questions.

The deadline of my thesis defense is set by the end of June, 2008. There is no much time left for me to wrap up the thesis. If you can help me, please reply this message. I will send you the URL link of the first part once I receive your response. The completion of my thesis heavily relies much on your generous help.

Sincerely

Hello, I inform you that I requested move for the article at J. M. G. Le Clézio to go back to the original title. Since you has shown interest in the article, I would appreciate your input in the discussion. The discussion for move has very a few participants so far, so more people's opinion on this matter would be necessary. Regards.--Caspian blue 14:36, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

When you add a wikilink, make sure it links to the article you intended. Links to J.D. lead to a disambiguation page listing many possible meanings of those initials, whereas you intended links to Juris Doctor. Piping links works well in these cases - the text can say J.D., but the link will go to the right place. Thanks. - Special-T (talk) 16:03, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. In order to use this material, we need verification of authorization. If there is a note somewhere on that website indicating that the material is public domain or licensed compatibly with GFDL, please leave the URL pointing to it at the article's talk. If you have or can obtain permission, please follow through with the process at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission (if you are its original author, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials). In the former case, we can restore the article as soon as the link is verified. In the latter, we'll have to wait a couple of days until the communications committee logs receipt of the release at the article's talk page. (To facilitate that, please be sure that the release covers all necessary elements at Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries, as missing elements may cause the permission not to go through.) If you'd like to revise the material into new language to bypass these concerns, please do so at Talk:Ted Kaufman/Temp.
Please feel free to drop me a note at my talk page if I can be of assistance with any of this. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:47, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Cjs2111! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Jean-Paul Dubois - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Jack Greenberg (lawyer). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jack Greenberg (lawyer). Proposed deletion of Chris Beam

Your comments at Talk:Chris Beam suggest that you may have concerns about the page being deleted. I have not removed the tag on your behalf because I am not sure if you were expressing objection to deletion or simply a question about Wikipedia policy. License tagging for File:Monasutphen.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Monasutphen.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 06:05, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Jester.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Jester.gif. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 19:46, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Rita Hauser has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Mhiji 02:37, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Rita Hauser has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Mhiji 02:39, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Duncankennedy.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Duncankennedy.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:33, 9 May 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 00:33, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Hlrecordfrong.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Hlrecordfrong.png, which you've sourced to Harvard Law Record Corporation. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:06, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:15, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
