Notice of Palestine-Israel enforcement restriction

As a result of an arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee has acknowledged long-term and persistent problems in the editing of articles related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, broadly understood. As a result, the Committee has enacted broad editing restrictions, described here and below.

  • Any uninvolved administrator may, on his or her own discretion, impose sanctions on any editor working in the area of conflict if, despite being warned, that editor repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, any expected standards of behavior, or any normal editorial process.
  • The sanctions imposed may include blocks of up to one year in length; bans from editing any page or set of pages within the area of conflict; bans on any editing related to the topic or its closely related topics; restrictions on reverts or other specified behaviors; or any other measures which the imposing administrator believes are reasonably necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the project.
  • Prior to any sanctions being imposed, the editor in question shall be given a warning with a link to this decision; and, where appropriate, should be counseled on specific steps that he or she can take to improve his or her editing in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Discretionary sanctions imposed under the provisions of this decision may be appealed to the imposing administrator, the appropriate administrators' noticeboard (currently WP:AE), or the Committee.

These editing restrictions may be applied to any editor for cause, provided the editor has been previously informed of the case. This message is to so inform you. This message does not necessarily mean that your current editing has been deemed a problem; this is a template message crafted to make it easier to notify any user who has edited the topic of the existence of these sanctions.

Generally, the next step, if an administrator feels your conduct on pages in this topic area is disruptive, would be a warning, to be followed by the imposition of sanctions (although in cases of serious disruption, the warning may be omitted). Hopefully no such action will be necessary.

This notice is only effective if given by an uninvolved administrator and logged here.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:38, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Please discuss

It appears you added a [better source needed] tag to Operation_Pillar_of_Defense. Could you please explain why on the talk page for the article. PerDaniel (talk) 12:00, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

I've commented on the talk page. Inkbug (talk) 18:47, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

December 2012

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed your recent edit to Operation Pillar of Defense does not have an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history. Thanks! Bbb23 (talk) 15:25, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Sorry. I'll try to write one for all edits. Inkbug (talk) 15:44, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. If you really want to force yourself to do so, you can change your Preferences\Editing\ and check "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary". That would remind you to do it on every edit, even on talk pages. I think it's a good idea (mine is checked), but, of course, you don't have to.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:48, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip. I checked the setting. Inkbug (talk) 15:58, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Apparently I didn't put an edit summary. Woops! Inkbug (talk) 15:59, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
LOL. You may find it annoying in the beginning, but many experienced editors believe that every edit, no matter how tiny, should have an edit summary, even if it's just "reply" or "re" or "ce". How much you put in the summary is a judgment depending on what you're editing. For example, in the Operation Pillar of Defense article, I'd recommend longer edit summaries because the article is controversial and because it's subject to arbtiration sanctions, whereas in our little conversation here, a short edit summary is fine.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:02, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Drew Light Artillery

Would you mind reassessing Drew Light Artillery. I have made several improvements over the last two days. Thanks! Aleutian06 (talk) 03:15, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I reassessed the article as start. However, I noticed that large portions of the article seem to copied directly from the source. You might want to look at Wikipedia:Copyright violations for more information. Inkbug (talk) 06:21, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Please see if these changes address your copyright and copy and paste concerns. Thanks! Aleutian06 (talk) 13:54, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Hi. It is better now, and I also fixed some more stuff, so I removed the tag. However, I'm still a bit concerned about the big quote there (although I'm not an expert on policy – I'm also pretty new here). Inkbug (talk) 17:51, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
Not an invalid concern. We ususally steer away from large block quotes, but this a rather obscure source. If it makes you feel better about the copyright issue, Major Jett, who wrote the orgional report that is being reprinted in Williams' book died in 1917. I believe his report was first printed in the local Hempstead county paper in conjunction with a reunion that occured prior to Majro Jett's death, but I haven't been able to tack it down yet. Given that it had to have been published before 1923 there should be no copyrigh issue. Thanks for helping with this article!

Please explain how a person moving to Israel from Yemen in 1950 or Iraq in 1951 is a "Palestinian refugee". In what sense were they "Palestinian"? Zerotalk 07:01, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

If you want to you can dispute whether the whole section is relevant. However, I think the image is relevant to the section it is in. Inkbug (talk) 07:07, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
I did dispute the whole section, see the talk page. Zerotalk 07:16, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I read through it, and it looks kind of hopeless. We'll probably need to fight the citations on a one by one basis. Sorry, Inkbug (talk) 07:30, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I've just reviewed USS Kentucky (BB-6). There is a pretty big concern there regarding the lack of refs outside of DANFS. I suggest you start working on finding more references to add to the article, as well as fixing other problems listed in the GAN. Buggie111 (talk) 02:06, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For an amazing effort on USS Kentucky (BB-6). I'm sorry to tell you that the article has failed it's GAN, but it's in much better shape than before you started working on it. I wish you the utmost luck with further improvements. Buggie111 (talk) 18:05, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Thank you! I'll try to work more on it, and find even more sources. BTW, What is the usual time-frame between nominations – how much time should I wait (assuming I fix the problems) until I resubmit it to GAN? Inkbug (talk) 18:11, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
No mandatory waiting period, but about a month is common. Ping me when you consider sending her up again. Buggie111 (talk) 19:10, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

What's the problem about referencing?--Seonookim (talk) 00:50, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi! According to WP:MH/B?, "As a rule of thumb, all sections need an absolute minimum of one citation and all direct quotes should be attributed to a source". I stopped counting after 50 paragraphs with no inline refs, and at least 4 quotes with no attribution. Inkbug (talk) 06:06, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
I lost the references book, I'll look for it.--Seonookim (talk) 00:40, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
I found it again.--Seonookim (talk) 00:50, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
Better now? All the quotes are referenced. Most of the unreferenced sections are based on Yi Yihwa's Donghak Peasant Revolution, but I thought it would be redundant to ref the book so many times.--Seonookim (talk) 07:12, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi! The quotations are good. I don't think it is redundant to cite the book multiple times (that's what happens in many articles). Inkbug (talk) 07:15, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
Is it necessary for a Featured Article (my goal for Donghak Peasant Revolution) to have at least one ref per paragraph?--Seonookim (talk) 05:45, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi! I'm not an expert on this (I'm pretty new here), but WP:MH/B? states explicitly that to achieve B-Class (a prerequisite for FA) in Military History articles, one needs at least one ref per paragraph. You might want to read through that page, it should clarify it. Inkbug (talk) 06:05, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

For working on the article USS Kentucky (BB-6), and persevering through the previous failed GA nomination of the article, and continuing to improve the article until it reached GA status, I herby present to you this award. Your efforts greatly improved the article and honor all those who serve aboard the ships who have had the privilege to be named for the state of Kentucky. Bringing Israeli military articles to FA status

I'm not interested in any barnstars. Is there any chance you could hook me up with those sweet cyberbadges given out at the IDF blog? They're a lot cooler than the ones given out by Hamas. 76.105.194.160 (talk) 04:31, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, but I have no connection to the IDF or their blog. The only thing I have to offer is barnstars. And I am not connected to Hamas either. Inkbug (talk) 04:43, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks! I'm working on the USS Kentucky (BB-6) at the moment (at A class review right now), and hope to also get the class article to FA some time. Inkbug (talk) 04:50, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
