Kate De Remero / Kate Donnelly
[edit]{{subst:Thank you so much for your creation of the Kate De Remero page. She is definitely referred to by this name so that was a very good change. You are an incredible Wikapedian and I appreciate the work you put into the new page. However, I am requesting that you as a great and educated Wikapedian delete this redirect page for the following reasons: the last name of the individual is de Remero, and Donnelly is vastly different from that, which causes confusion; since, as you noted, she uses the last name De Remero, it makes her description much more complicated and difficult to understand; and also the presence of the redirect article makes it more difficult to find the actual Kate de Remero that people will look for.|Kate Donnelly}} 108.51.195.71 (talk) 23:45, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- Hi there, and thanks for your message. Are you another person called Kate Donnelly? I ask because your focus seems to be on her old name, and when I searched for Kate Donnelly on Google I noticed that it is showing incorrect information and the wrong photo in the infobox. Johndavies837 (talk) 00:21, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for your message back! Again I appreciate all of your contributions to Wikapedia.
No, I am not another person named Kate Donnelly.
I am just someone looking to become a possible member of Wikapedia. I preach that I am just trying to do what is best for Wikapedia. Since there are many other Kate Donnelly's and Kate de Remero does not go by Kate Donnelly anymore, I think the presence of the redirect page makes for extra confusion. In addition, you accurately noted that she was born as Katherine Donnelly. That is a great addition to have on the page! But the addition of the Kate Donnelly redirect page makes for more perplexion and confusion.
I commend you for the work you have done on Wikapedia and also on the Kate De Remero page. I have been praying that I can make a positive impact on Wikapedia, and I think the elimination of the redirect page is a way I can do that. For the betterment of Wikapedia, I ask that you delete the Kate Donnelly redirect page. From doing adequate research, I have learned that deleting a redirect page is extremely simple due to its small bandwith. If it makes for extra confusion, I think deletion of the redirect page will have a positive impact.
Thank you so much and I appreciate your time! 108.51.195.71 (talk) 11:04, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

- I had multiple tabs open. I think I was accidentally editing an old revision and clicked save, which is why later edits were overwritten. When I saw what happened I copied the last revision by Octoberwoodland and restored it, minus the change I intended to make. Johndavies837 (talk) 21:39, 5 August 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
[edit]Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

Current foreign minister of Oman
[edit]Haitham bin Tariq al Said was sworn in only as sultan not as prime minster or foreign minister. The new government will probably be formed after the end of the mourning period. Until then these functions are vacant. Bogdan Uleia (talk) 14:56, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Have you read the source I linked to? It says he's also foreign minister. Johndavies837 (talk) 15:10, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Al Jazeera is wrong. It is not mandatory for the sultan to be simultaneously s ultan, prime minister and foreign minister. Although he was sultan since 1970 Quaboos bin Said became prime minister and foreign minister only in 1972. So it is possible that the current sultan will appoint other people for these positions. Please don't revert edits because of simple typos. That should only be done for vandalism ,which this clearly wasn't. That was an abuse of rollback. And when someone makes a typo and is in the process of fixing things, just leave it alone. Meters (talk) 20:16, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Meters The first edit was flagged because an IP user changed the principal and there was no source, which is a common type of vandalism on high school pages. The next edit minutes was not just a typo, it made the page completely unreadable. In hindsight, it obviously wasn't your intention to do that, but to call it an abuse of rollback is absurd. Johndavies837 (talk) 20:30, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- It was not vandalism. You agree. Therefore it was an abuse of the rollback. Period. If you can't be bothered to actually look at what the edit was supposed to be that's your problem. Don't do it again.
- And as for the IP's edit, it removed a dead link and an incorrect claim, and replaced it with a correct claim. You obviously didn't bother to look at the original reference that you restored, or check the school's webpage to see if the principal had indeed changed. The IP's edit was not vandalism either. You need to be much more careful about what you call vandalism. Meters (talk) 20:37, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- You might want to re-read WP:ROLLBACK "Standard rollback may only be used in certain situations – editors who misuse standard rollback (for example, by using it to reverse good-faith edits in situations where an explanatory edit summary would normally be expected) may have their rollback rights removed. "
- You might also want to read WP:GOODFAITH. It was rolled back because it appeared to be vandalism at the time and I explained why. I'm not sure why you are taking this personally. Johndavies837 (talk) 20:46, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- You incorrectly reverted an edit of mine as vandalism, while I was in the process of fixing the typos. I pointed out that that that is an abuse of the roll back feature. You argued. I pointed you to WP:ROLLBACK. There's no assumption of bad faith. If I thought that you had acted in bad faith I would have templated you. And no, you didn't explain why you reverted me in your edit summary. You did so after I called you out on your use of roll back. This was clearly an inappropriate use of rollback. If you don't understand when you are allowed to use rollback and when you are not, you should not be using at all. Meters (talk) 20:54, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- You might also want to read WP:GOODFAITH. It was rolled back because it appeared to be vandalism at the time and I explained why. I'm not sure why you are taking this personally. Johndavies837 (talk) 20:46, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- The first edit was flagged on recent changes, it's a common type of vandalism on high school pages. I left a message on the IP user's page and asked to add a citation. When I stepped away for a few minutes and came back, the whole page was unreadable, at which point I concluded someone was vandalizing the page. In hindsight, I don't think you were vandalizing, no, but that's just how it appeared at the time. There's no need to argue about it when neither of us were acting in bad faith. A Shoal is not an Island?
[edit]Hello! Thanks for your work on Metis Shoal. In this edit [2] you called the shoal an island. In my mind, there's a bit of a problem there. A shoal is an underwater bank. I dont understand why you didnt add a full reference here. Do you care about adding this info? Or do you not really care? A reference only consisting of a url is subject to WP:link rot, because the link moves or becomes dead, sometimes within weeks. so a claim referenced with a raw link will be unverifiable in a relatively short time, and your edit becomes useless. Adding a raw linkref makes no sense. Use provelt and it does the job automatically! Besides url and title, please add at an absolute minimum:
- the date of publication,
- name of the author(s), or
- best: a full and archived reference

[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Hello
[edit]Hello, I’ve seen that you reverted my decision and proposed a merge, and unredirected the page I redirected. The reason I redirected that page is because the article I made had more information than that article, and If you felt like that page name was wrong you could rename it don’t just do stuff without talking to me to see why I did it. Thank you. PopularGames (talk) 04:40, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- @PopularGames You removed another editor's page in favor of your own, when both pages had similar information. Just now you removed it again when there's been no discussion at all. I'm also confused why you insist on using a title which you know is factually incorrect? No one has confirmed the disease as flu. There's a merge proposal because there are 2 pages. Please continue the discussion on the talk page. Thanks. Johndavies837 (talk) 20:55, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
