Hello and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.

I've identified this image as being property of Kings Island (http://www.kidiamondback.com/) with no apparent release into the public domain. I've re-tagged the image with {{non-free logo}}, making this a non-free image. As a result, it must be used in an actual article to remain on Wikipedia, and it must have a rationale for its use here. • Do you have any evidence that Kings Island has released rights to the logo of this rollercoaster ride? Just because someone copies it doesn't make it public domain. Just because you find it somewhere on the Internet doesn't mean Kings Island doesn't retain rights. I've tagged this image for speedy deletion as a replicate of the non-free image File:Link Twilight Princess.png. Though you obtained the image from here, the image is clearly marked there as being copyrighted and user under terms of fair use. Simply copying it from there and uploading it here does not transfer rights to you such that you now own copyright to it. I've also re-tagged the image as {{Non-free character}}, and orphaned and missing a rationale for use as with the Diamondback image. --Hammersoft (talk) 18:13, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. • The "non-free rationale" link above is a link to Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. It instructs you on how to create a non-free rationale. Every non-free image on the project MUST have a non-free rationale for every use of the item on the project. If it's used on two articles, in needs two rationales. If one, one. If ten, ten. Without such rationales, the images are usually removed from where they are used or if used in only one article, deleted from the project entirely. • In this case, 100% of the screen, yes? Therefore, 100%. Also, the reason for use, that of "There was no picture of in-game play." is exceptionally weak. There needs to be a compelling reason why the absence of this image in the article would be detrimental to understanding the game (See WP:NFCC #8). Is there something about the interface that is significant, as discussed by secondary sources? If you're including it just to include it, it's no good. • It's still the same as it ever was; you're adding a screen shot because it didn't have a screenshot. That's not an effective reason. Reading the article, if the image wasn't there I wouldn't lose any understanding of the article. There's NOTHING in the article prose tied to the image, much less actual secondary sourced commentary. • My interest is in educating you how to do it, so people don't have to fix what you create. Understand; Wikipedia is radically different than Wikia. Wikia doesn't care about being free. We do here, in fact it's codified in our mission. We don't add photos just because "it's always good to have a few photos". We don't work that way here. Hammersoft said it would be good if the picture was "tied to the text" "with secondary sourced text". That means it would be better if the article talked about the picture. So you'd need to find a source that discussed what was shown in the picture. Cloveapple (talk) 05:13, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

MontagnaMagica

Hi Kata! I'm surprised to see you here too! I changed my Wikia username from KoopaTroop to a more unique user name that won't make me seem like a video game nerd. It was KoopaTroop because in all the Mario games, I always root for the Koopa Troop because they aren't evil like that murderous plumber! I digress... :P MontagnaMagica represents my love for roller coasters, especially Six Flags Magic Mountain, and my interest in the Italian language and culture.

Anyway, I edit here from time to time, usually just fixing typos, or righting wrongs in the coaster articles. I'm trying to get approval to have Roller Coaster Wiki linked on Roller coaster. Hopefully, they will see it a well-taken-care-of website that has much information. KoopaTroop (talk) 04:17, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

That's good! I hope it can stay. Perhaps they wanted to see multiple users support the link before it was allowed. That would make sense.

To answer your question, yes, I did like the Mario series (Long live King Bowser! :P), and I still have some interest in it left. There wasn't really a particular game that I liked. I mostly played the spin-offs like Mario Kart Wii. I still think it is the best racing game ever! :P

I think if the link seems to be staying, we should not need to ask about it. We know it is OK there since it obviously isn't vandalism, and bringing up the topic will just alert editors to that topic and start a debate, which may not end well for a mid-sized wiki like ours. A simple lesson in grammar

"There" and "their" sound the same, but have different meanings and should not be used incorrectly in a sentence. "There" denotes location, while "their" denotes possession. Take a look at the two sentences based on one of your recent edits on Nerf war:

• Incorrect: "Also, a Church may be turned into a giant battle field, by flipping tables onto there side."
• Correct: "Also, a Church may be turned into a giant battlefield by flipping tables onto their sides."

March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. User group for Military Historians

Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

Points can be earned through reviewing articles on the AutoCheck report, reviewing articles listed at WP:MILHIST/ASSESS, reviewing MILHIST-tagged articles at WP:GAN or WP:FAC, and reviewing articles submitted at WP:MILHIST/ACR. Service awards and barnstars are given for set points thresholds, and the top three finishers will receive further awards.
