Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 05:55 on 18 April 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems, because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors with "In the news"[edit]

The Børsen fire blurb should probably link "catches fire" to 2024 Børsen fire. Aaron Liu (talk) 01:21, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The fire article has fewer details than the main article. Stephen 04:57, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can't we link it without bolding it? Also, the article has the details now Aaron Liu (talk) 11:05, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The first bullet is "The historic Børsen (pictured) in Copenhagen, Denmark, catches fire." This can be updated, since there is now an article about the fire (2024 Børsen fire) and we also now know that its spire fell. A rewrite:

Another:

Not very familiar with source editing, wanted to point this out. Qwaabza (talk) 01:35, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The details of what damage was done is best left to reading the article. Stephen 04:58, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Re: link Which page to bold is best determined at Wikipedia:In_the_news/Candidates#Børsen, where there is already discussion on this.—Bagumba (talk) 07:13, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is more discussion here and ERRORS is usually the page about changing blurbs. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:26, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Bagumba. If consensus forms at ITNC to change the bolded link, I'd be happy to make the change. You may want to comment at ITNC and ping anyone who has only commented here. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 15:42, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are only two comments at ITNC though, both of which were made after both initial comments here. Anyways I'm gonna post a link to this discussion at ITNC. It's my understanding that blurb discussions after posting almost always happen here instead.
Just saw that there's a lot before the parts I saw. Still, I feel like this discussion is more on topic, while the one at ITNC talks about a lot of stuff including the image. 16:32, 17 April 2024 (UTC) Aaron Liu (talk) 16:30, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Anyhow, can we please get consensus to at least just link "catches fire"? Aaron Liu (talk) 17:24, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Moot, article merged. Aaron Liu (talk) 17:45, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
