Userbox

[edit]

Hey I was wandering if you would like me to create a userbox for the wikiproject? Hatmatbbat10 (talk) 19:32, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Yes, that would be great. Also if you want to improve the code for the page, then that would also be helpful. Thanks! (jccort) 19:55, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I'll work on the userbox and post it hear so you can see it. Just to let you know I can't use the UF logo because it's not a free license. What do you mean by improving the code? Hatmatbbat10 (talk) 04:11, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hatmatbbat10 (talkcontribs) 04:32, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I like it! If we all seem to agree on it shall i create a template for it and add it to Wikipedia:Userboxes/WikiProjects#Education?Hatmatbbat10 (talk) 20:19, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I made a template for the userbox, it can be found here Template:User WikiProject University of Florida —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hatmatbbat10 (talkcontribs) 00:00, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page template

[edit]

I have kludged together a template for article talk pages, to track which articles are part of the project, and to keep track of current quality ratings. It's a quick and dirty mod of the WP Georgia Tech template, with all instances of that university's name replaced with "University of Florida" as appropriate, so it should function correctly once it's out of userspace. I used the cropped Century Tower pic, since that seems to be the most popular free-use picture available. The template does not have the capacity to display the project priority (à la {{WPFlorida}}); if some template guru can add that, I'd be grateful. It's currently located at User:Horologium/WPUF; I'll push it into template space over the weekend if it meets with everyone's approval. Horologium (talk) 02:46, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, good. I wanted to see Century Tower on the template. Good job! --Moni3 (talk) 03:27, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I like it! Good job! Hatmatbbat10 (talk) 03:53, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I pushed the template into template space and started adding it to a few articles. The template is {{WPUF}}, which is short and easy to remember (and type). Horologium (talk) 23:06, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way how we can see all the articles that are part of the project, like a category or something? Of course we would have to put the template on the article's talk page first. Hatmatbbat10 (talk) 00:21, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will create a matrix, similar to the one at WikiProject Florida, but I need to have some articles tagged before it will work. I'll have that done later tonight. Horologium (talk) 00:26, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok Thanks! I've started tagging some articles and i'll keep doing more. Hatmatbbat10 (talk) 01:06, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Kimon tweaked the template a bit, and now both the quality rating and the priority are displayed on the right side of the template, rather than having just the quality rating under the picture of Century Tower. It looks really good now. Horologium (talk) 01:13, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Added assessment summary chart

[edit]

On the main page of the project, I have added an assessment table, which displays all of the articles currently tagged by the project, by their importance and quality status. This table is not totally dynamic; it updates every two or three days by way of a bot, so don't get frustrated if you tag or assess a bunch of articles and it doesn't show up right away.

Right now, we have no FA, A, or GA class articles, which is something we should push toward. University of Florida is a B-class article; let's at least get it up to GA class.

For importance, I think we should establish some criteria to avoid having everything listed as high-priority. Alumni, unless they were important to the university itself (such as joining the staff), should be low-importance. I've been tagging all of the individual colleges as High-importance, because they are the raison d'être of the university; I think individual buildings should be low-importance. We'll have to hash out things like the sports programs and faculty members. Horologium (talk) 02:48, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had a couple questions about the assessment of a couple articles. Well I went ahead and put the O'Dome and Ben Hill Griffen Stadium has mid importance, do you think that's right? Also what about individual sport seasons, low? And what about the baseball stadium and sports rivalries? Hatmatbbat10 (talk) 03:30, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think that the O Dome and Ben Hill Griffin Stadium should be either mid or high importance, so let's leave them at mid. The baseball stadium is much lower-profile, since college baseball is not a big deal here in Florida, so I'd say low. Individual seasons should be low, although maybe we might step them up to mid for championship seasons. The rivalries are relatively unimportant, so we can leave them at low. Horologium (talk) 03:48, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a few more quick questions, what about the importance for Tim Tebow? I've put other current players for low importance, but he's a little different. Another one, what about the articles for football seasons by decades, they're not single seasons it's an article for the whole decade. Should i put that at Low? Also does this project cover UF Alumni? Hatmatbbat10 (talk) 05:19, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tebow is currently the flavor of the month. His accomplishment is notable, but not for the university itself (it's likely that he would have performed similarly at any other university), and it's not likely that he will be working with the university after graduation. Moving his priority up would be a bad case of recentism. I think that the articles by decade should be low pri as well, because they are overviews of a bunch of low-priority articles. As for the alumni, I can almost guarantee that people will start adding alumni to the project, even if they didn't do anything noteworthy while at UF. Horologium (talk) 15:51, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree on the significance Tebow's accomplishment. Having a player win an award like that brings tremendous attention and good press for the university, both now and for years to come. Most UF athlete articles should be rated "low", but those with outstanding individual accomplishments (national player of the year in college or professional sports, perhaps Olympic gold medals, etc.) should be rated "mid", imo.

Also, I don't see a problem with adding a bunch of UF alums to the project. If they're notable enough to deserve a wikipedia entry, we should take pride in that and link them to their alma mater, albiet with a "low" importance rating unless they've accomplished something particularly outstanding (like, you know, curing cancer or writing the great American novel...) Zeng8r (talk) 16:36, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry to be asking so many questions, but I'm just trying to get all the articles assessed right. I went ahead and put Gatorade and Dr. Robert Cade as Mid importance, do you guys think that's right? Also what about buildings that are on campus? And coaching staff? I know most assistant coaches should be Low, but what about head coaches of all the sports? And i was wandering about the article President of the University of Florida, it almost seems like a list article, but should it be High importance? Next Florida Meetup

[edit]

Please feel free to discuss the next Florida meetup location(s) here. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 22:56, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What's your time frame on this? --Moni3 (talk) 13:41, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be up there next weekend and I'll bring my camera gear. I should be able to get many of these shots while I'm there. I can always go back and reshoot and get anything else you might need once the new semester starts. Nikonmadness (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 04:09, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UF Distinguished Professors

[edit]

This page seems to be a list of Distinguished Professors at UF: http://fora.aa.ufl.edu/provost/Pages/Distinguished-Professors/about Per WP:PROF these people are all notable and thus could reasonably have Wikipedia articles.

I wasn't sure of the best place to put these, but these are all potential articles within the purview of this project. Douglas Whitaker (talk) 01:45, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
